Languages are just different. Really?

Portugese is not the same, since in Irish the repeating of the verb is not being done for emphatic reasons, but because it’s the only way to answer the question, barring the copula, which really isn’t a verb anyway.

So, the basic question that I asked still remains, what are the reasons that verbs are used to answer questions in Irish instead of a simple “yes” or “no?” Magh Ithe’s observation about the similar use in Latin may provide a clue.
