in “níl a fhios agam an bhfuil sé ansin”, it is “de” : níl de fhios agam an bhfuil sé ansin” (isn’t of knowledge at-me if he is there)
but in “níl a fhios agam” alone, it is the possessive (its knowledge isn’t at-me)

We have an expression “Siitä mulla ei ole hevonpaskan tietoa”, “I haven’t got horse crap’s knowledge about it”. But I assume the “níl a fhios agam” form doesn’t bend that far then?

Well, I know pretty much nothing about sports – I understand that in a match, one team wins or it’s a tie… :coolsmile:
You would say “nìl eolas ar bith agam ar an spòrt” or “ar na spòirt” (about sports)
= I have no knowledge on sport.Normally “fios” is used when you know that something exists ; eolas is more like to know plenty of things about a subject.
Like “tà a fhios agam sìceolaìocht ach nìl eolas agam orthaì” = I know psychology exists, but I’ve no knowledge about it
