An bhfuil aon áit ina dtugtar an foghrú “kya:l” ar an bhfocal seo? Cheapas gur chloiste agam é, ach is cosúil gurb í “ki:al” an chaoi cheart, nach é?

Sìlim go ndeirtear /k’i:É™L/ in achan àit – i nGaeilg dhùchasach, ar ndòighe.
“kya:l” would correspond to a spelling like “ceall”, although I don’t know if it’s really the way some people would pronounce it (maybe in Connemara??)

Thanks, it’s possible I heard it somewhere along the line from a non-native or non-fluent speaker 😉

I think it should be /k’i:É™L/ in Connemara as well… That would also make more sense when you of the fact that it has an /e:/ sound in the genitive case (céille). Like “éisc” (gen.), which comes from “iasc” /i:É™sk/.
