Dia daoibh! I’m a beginner learning Gaeilge through Rosetta Stone at the moment, and I am currently responsible for designing the jerseys for my local hurling pub league in St. Louis, MO.
We usually give the teams nicknames to go along with their sponsors, and I just wanted to make sure my grammar and choice of words is appropriate for each one.
The following is a list of what I have so far, I am also open to new nickname ideas.
Sponsor :: Nickname :: Intended meaning
Tower Bar :: na boghdóirí :: the bowmen/archers
McGurks :: shamróga dubha :: black shamrocks
Happy Apples :: úlla sásta :: happy apples
Amsterdam Tavern :: diabhail óráistí :: orange devils
Maplewood :: duilleoga mhailpeanna :: maple leaves
^thinking about purposely messing up the plural to “duille mhailpeanna” to be like the Toronto Maple Lea(fs)
Tigín :: mic tíre :: wolves
Hibernians :: fianna :: warriors
Hibernians (different chapter) :: fánaithe :: wanderers
Please let me know if I’ve messed up any of these, or if anyone has a better or more obvious name I could be using.
Go raibh maith agaibh
