I have heard many different pronunciations for “gabh”, from “go:”, “gau”, “gav”, etc. Which of these would be the most likely realization in Connemara? Also, I am not sure about the pronunciation for the future/conditional stem. How, then, would “gabhfaidh” be pronounced, for example?

    Thanks

The pronunciations I’ve heard in Connemara are /go:É™/ for “gabhfaidh” (“will go”) and /go(:)/ for “gabh” (“go!/come!”). For me /ga:u/ would be the past impersonal form, i.e. “was/were arrested” (spelt “gabhadh”).

For the base form, see also: http://breis.focloir.ie/en/fuaim/gabh for suggested dialectical pronunciations.
