Does anyone know what i ndáiribh means in the following sentence? “Rud ciníoch atá ann i ndáiribh.” It is from a Nós.ie article on an author’s Facebook account being blocked because he used the Irish version of his name. I think the first bit means “It is a racial thing…”

    It’s a variation on i ndáiríre, “seriously”. See: http://breis.focloir.ie/en/fgb/dáiríre

Go raibh maith agat! It must be relatively rare, if it’s not in Focloir.ie (and if googling it turned up only a couple hits). On the web, anyway; I guess there’s a difference between occurrence in everyday speech somewhere in the Gaeltacht , and occurrence in electronic media.

    I think “i ndáiribh” is a typo.

It’s i ndáiríribh which has thousands of hits on Google.

OH! Thank you. Hm, how do you say “Psst, you may have a typo” in Irish?

Hmmm … I’d say something like:

B’fhéidir gur dheinis dearmhad, dar liomsa. (I think that maybe you’ve made a mistake.)

More specifically, “typo” could be expressed any number of ways: dearmad cló, botún cló, iomrall cló, etc. or you could say “chlóigh/scríobh túÂ mícheart é”
