    ár gcéad mháthair
    our – first – mother

    an chéad mháthair AGAINN
the – first – mother – at us

people often avoid to use the possessives before “céad” and express it by using “agam, agad, aige, aici, againn, agaibh, acu” after the last word.

In Benedictus by John O’Donoghue (author of Anam Chara) there is a blessing entitled In Praise of Water, the final two lines of which are as follows:
Blessed be water Our first mother.
My translation (with the help of Lughaidh):
Go naofar uisce Ár gcéad mháthair.
I prefer naofar (as used in The Lords Prayer – go naofar d’ainm), to naomhaítear.
    Is my/our translation ok?
