I’m learning Irish on my own, living in a place where there are no Irish speakers at all, and have only been to Ireland one time – so here is my “expert” analysis ;-P :
The old guy (MacDara, an ea?) is speaking in the Connacht dialect and is obviously a native speaker.
I’m learning Munster Irish so I may be wrong about this one, but to me, Mary sounds like a fluent learner with fairly decent pronunciation.
Yeah, MacDara is a well known actor who plays the character Tadhg on Ros na Rún and I’m fairly certain he is a native Connacht speaker. The woman Mary sounds, as WeeMan says above, like a fluent but not native speaker.
Cool video – he plays a pretty miserly character on the show so it’s nice to see him as a nice down-to-earth fellow 😉
