Immersion Course in The Irish Language
Friday, November 11th through Sunday, November 13th, 2022
Diamond Ridge Conference Center
Jamison, PA 18929
Gaeltacht Weekends were established in 1981 to provide a setting where students can learn and practice the Irish Language in an atmosphere where Irish is the “First” language. The name Gaeltacht refers to the regions in Ireland where Irish is the predominant language.
Daltaí na Gaeilge is pleased to announce that we will be returning to Jamison, Pennsylvania for our November Irish Language Immersion Weekend. This event will close out our 42nd year of service to the Irish-speaking community.
As is our custom, this weekend’s program will combine formal Irish classes with practical and entertaining opportunities to learn and live the language. All students are invited to participate; and classes will be offered for every level of ability. We are always happy to welcome beginners and classes will be arranged especially for them.
Language classes on Saturday and Sunday are mandatory for all participants, but we will also offer a full range of other optional activities. For instance, after registration on Friday evening we will offer a crash phrase course followed by an opportunity to learn a song or two in Irish. We will also have a “seisiún cois tine” on Saturday evening to allow attendees to show off their talents and entertain one another. Bring your musical instruments.
Various workshops will be offered between classes on Saturday covering different aspects of Irish culture, history, music and dance. Mass will also be celebrated in Irish and English on Saturday for those who choose to attend. Later that evening will feature the “seisiún cois tine” we mentioned aboved, which will be followed by a Costume Céilí with live music, dancing and entertainment. Prizes will be awarded for the best costumes. Come dressed or wear a mask! Get into the spirit and join the fun!!
This program receives funding support from the Fulbright Commission in Ireland and the Irish Government’s Department of Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht.
