Is there a word as Gaeilge for “marshmellow”? I wanted to write that I tosted marshmellows a few nights ago, but couldn’t find any word for marshmellows…and it sounded and looked weird when I wrote it out using the singular of the English without knowing a way to do it in a plural sense.

    Go raibh maith agaibh!

That looks right, if your using tósta as an adjective. But if you wanted to say that you toasted marshmallows, I would think you’d use some form of “tóstáil.” But I’m just a foghlaimeoir, so wait for more learned opinions.

“D’itheamar leamhacháin tósta.” nó “D’itheamar leamhacháin tóstáilte.” ?

    D’itheamar leamhacháin thóstáilte

“We ate toasted marshmallows” (séimhiú on the ⟨t⟩ of ⟨tóstáil⟩ since it’s following a plural noun ending in a slender consonant).

    Or:

    Thóstálamar leamhacháin is d’itheamar iad

“We toasted marshmallows and we ate them.”

    A Séril, a chara,

I hope you don’t mind me pointing out the correct spelling is ”marshmallow.” I used to spell it ”marshmellow” also since that’s how it sounds.

No, that’s fine, a Dháithí. It’s just another leave-over from growing up as a phonetic speller. lol 🙂 Thanks for catching that!
