Dia daoibh,
Apologies if this has been asked before.
Are there suffixes as Gaeilge which are similar to the English suffixes “ist” and “er”? As the username suggests I’d like to be able to say more than “Imrím an feadóg stain, ach is fearr liom mo trombón” (does it go to “thrombón”?) etc, so how would you say:
trombonist
pianist
trumpeter
motorist
linguist
I’m pretty sure “rothaí” is cyclist, but I can’t picture putting “aí” on the end of trombón etc.
Final question: would “tin whistle player” just “ceoltói feadóg stain” or something similar?
