I think the Irish word “go” sounds like “guh” and not like the English word “go”.

In Munster Irish, the word “deimhin” sounds more like the English word “dine” and not like “die in”.

Also, it seems very contrived; not only do you have to mispronounce “go deimhin”, but you also have to switch to English “a hole” to create this alleged pun. :-S

A punann is the lowest form of wheat.

But I needed this pun explained to me too.

Ceann níos fearr: Cén teanga a labhraítear ar an nGealach? Gaoluinn na Moon.

    Just shoot me now!

Tá an ceart agat, a Aoghuis – the Gaoluinn na Moon one is better …

Ceann eile dhuit: cur Gaeilge ar seo:

A walking woman from five pisses with a troat cloak

…five pisses with a troat cloak

    Ní thuigim.

    Botún cló amháin: “trout cloak”

Aistrigh focal ar fhocal é, ag cur droch imeartas focal san áireamh.

Ceart go leor, déanfad mo dhícheall:

a walking woman – bean ag siúl

from five pisses – ó chúig (ní thuigim “pisses” in aon chor)

with a trout cloak – le clóca bric

aargh … ní féidir liom é a dhéanamh.

I guess I haven’t graduated to “pun” status. I’m not able to get them atm…lol Oh well. I tried to look up “Gaoluinn” but couldn’t find the meaning listed???

    I’ll eventually get there. 😛
