    It would be “Die Lichter erzaehlen die Geschichte” in German. I definitely wouldn’t trust Google Translate to get from Irish to German.

    I thought the verb goes at the end of a German sentence.

    Nope. It goes at the end of dependent clauses. If you were to say “The lights that tell the story” it would be “Die Lichter die die Geschichte erzaehlen” (yes, that’s “die die”).
